Why?

In the U.K., approximately 1.1 million adults aged 16 years and over encountered sexual assault in the year ending March 2022, with 798,000 women and 275,000 men affected. This represents a prevalence rate of roughly 2.3% among adults, with women experiencing a rate of 3.3% and men 1.2%. Alarmingly, there were 67,169 reported rapes during this period, with many cases likely going unreported. It's evident that our current approach to sex education is failing. We need to do more. I want to do more because when I was 13, I was raped.

Being raped took my voice away and shut me down, my life turned from what it should have been and filled with shame. I hated myself and toxic relationships became the norm. By 22 I was a heroin addict, I had to numb the pain somehow. But... there was a part of me inside that knew that there was more to life. I knew I deserved more. I wasn't a bad person so with grit and determination, I got myself clean.

Through my healing journey, I came to realise what is wrong with sexuality in our society today. I knew that I could empower others to feel comfortable, confident, secure in their sexuality and sexual communication, just as I do now.

Objectives

I aim to empower educators, parents, and young adults in fostering open, honest and comfortable sexual communication. I want to reframe the way we view sex and clear away the shame and fear.

Our young people need to see the long term effects of positive and negative sexual experiences, emotionally, mentally and physically, from both sides in order to help them make much more empowered and healthy choices.

Consent needs to be forefront and boundaries understood.

The effects of pornography, TV and music should be considered.

Sexual journeys need to be prepared for emotionally, mentally and physically.

My mission is to reshape our perception of sex, getting rid of those awkward conversations, and the power dynamics surrounding it. I want to prevent sexual abuse and bring a much deeper respect into sexuality.

Support Resources

To support my work, it is crucial for teachers and students to understand trauma responses. I have collaborated with a Trauma Therapist who has developed a teachable course to explain these responses and provide tools for managing them. This course is offered at a very affordable price, making it accessible to students, especially those from more deprived areas, as individual trauma sessions can cost anywhere from £75 to £500 per session. I am very grateful to Natalia Christie for providing this much-needed resource.
